Q1. Why am I facing DNS issues in the Proctortrack QT app?

If you’re in China, Google services — including Google DNS (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) — are blocked. Because of this, the app may fail to connect properly and show a DNS-related error.

Q2. What DNS should I use instead of Google DNS?

Use DNS servers that are accessible within China. Try one of the following:

ProviderPrimary DNSSecondary DNS
Cloudflare1.1.1.11.0.0.1
OpenDNS208.67.222.222208.67.220.220
China Telecom202.96.134.133
Alibaba Public DNS223.5.5.5223.6.6.6

Tip: Cloudflare or Alibaba DNS usually work best in mainland China.

Q3. How do I flush my DNS cache after changing DNS?

On Windows:

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

  2. Run this command:

    ipconfig /flushdns

On Mac:

  1. Open Terminal.

  2. Run this command:

sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

Q4. What if I still face issues after changing DNS?

  • Ensure your internet connection is stable.

  • Avoid using restricted school or office networks that might block Proctortrack.

  • Try connecting via home Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot.

Q5. Can I use a VPN to fix the issue?

Some students in China use a VPN to bypass DNS restrictions.
⚠️ Only use a VPN if your exam policy explicitly allows it. Always check with your institution first.

Q6. What should I do after updating my DNS?

  1. Flush your DNS cache (see above).

  2. Restart the Proctortrack QT app.

  3. Try launching your exam again.

⚠️ Important Note

Even after changing DNS, some IPs may still be blocked by local ISPs.
If issues persist, Alibaba DNS (223.5.5.5 / 223.6.6.6) is usually the most reliable option within mainland China.
