Accessing Allowed Apps & Links During an Exam

Q1: How do I open a whitelisted application or website during my exam?

A: Once your proctored test session begins, any approved (whitelisted) application or website must be launched directly through the Proctortrack interface:

  1. Locate the floating Proctortrack video widget (the small window displaying your webcam feed on your screen).

  2. Click the three dots (...) in the corner of the video widget.

  3. Select "Allowed Apps and URL" from the drop-down menu.

  4. Click on the application (e.g., Mac/Windows Calculator) or website link you need from the list. It will open directly on top of your exam window.

Q2: Why can’t I open the calculator or app from my computer’s Dock, Taskbar, or search bar?

A: Proctortrack’s secure browser locks down your desktop to maintain exam integrity. If you attempt to open an application using your Mac Dock, Windows Taskbar, or system search bar (such as Spotlight):

  • The application will technically launch, but it will be forced to run in the background.

  • The Proctortrack browser will block it from coming to the screen, making it completely inaccessible.

Important Note: Always use the three dots (...) menu on the Proctortrack video widget to bring whitelisted applications to the foreground.

Q3: Where is the Proctortrack video widget located?

A: The video widget is the small floating window showing your live webcam feed once proctoring starts. You can click and drag this widget anywhere on your screen if it ever covers important test content.

Q4: What if an application or link I need is missing from the list?

A: Only tools explicitly whitelisted by your instructor for that specific test will appear in the "Allowed Apps and URL" menu. If an application or website required for your exam is not listed:

  • Do not attempt to force it open outside Proctortrack.

  • Instantly reach out to Proctortrack Support via the live chat widget on your screen for immediate assistance.

Q5: What should I do if an allowed application freezes or disappears during my test?

A: Simply click the three dots (...) on your Proctortrack video widget again, re-select "Allowed Apps and URL", and click the application name to bring it back to the front. If the issue persists, contact Support via live chat right away.
