What is MVProctor?

MVProctor is the automatic remote proctoring solution the California Department of Motor Vehicles has selected for use

during online exams.


The following guide will assist you, the student, in going through the process of taking a proctored exam with MVProctor.

How does it work?

Test takers can fail verification for the following reasons:

● Missing or insufficient facial scan.

● Missing or insufficient ID scan.

● ID scan shows invalid ID or name mismatch.

● Insufficient environment lighting.



How To Take An Exam Using MVProctor


STEP 1: CUSTOMER HOME PAGE

Following the instructions from the email you received from the DMV, click “SIGN IN WITH YOUR DMV ACCOUNT” from the

MVProctor DMV homepage.


STEP 2: DMV LOGIN PAGE

Login to Online Services using your registered California DMV email address and password.



STEP 3: PLUGIN CHECK/DOWNLOAD PAGE

Next, you will be prompted to download the MVProctor plug-in for Google Chrome. It is important that you only use the Google Chrome browser for the proctored test. Click “DOWNLOAD PLUGIN” to download the plug-in via the Google Chrome extensions store.


3.a) Follow the browser prompts to add the plugin to Chrome.




3.b) After adding the plugin, the browser will return you to the plugin download page, where the plugin will perform a system check to ensure that your computer meets MVProctor’s minimum technical requirements. Once the system check is

completed, your browser will briefly display a readout of your system check.




3.c) The plugin download page will then begin redirecting you to the next page automatically. Please wait while the plugin page attempts to connect with MVProctor’s servers.* You can click REFRESH PAGE if the page does not automatically redirect.

(*If the number of testers online exceeds the maximum number of allowable simultaneous testers, a message will be displayed)




STEP 4: BEST PRACTICES PAGE

After the plug-in is installed, you will be redirected to the Best Practices page containing guidelines for a proper test

environment. Please scroll through to carefully read all the guidelines, check the box at the bottom of the screen to indicate

agreement, then click on "Go To Next Step" to proceed.




STEP 5: AGREEMENT TO POLICY

This step is the agreement to policies. Here you can access the MVProctor Terms of Service & Privacy policies via link, & click

on a Hide button to go back to the agreement statement. check the box at the bottom of the screen to confirm your consent,

agreement & acknowledgement of the policies, & click SUBMIT to move forward.

Click START to begin facial verification.




STEP 6: FACIAL SCAN

The next step is to submit your facial verification scan. Please align your face with the outline on the screen and click SCAN to

begin the scan.




STEP 7: CONFIRM FACIAL SCAN

Once the scan is captured to your satisfaction, please click CONFIRM AND SUBMIT to upload your facial scan.




STEP 8: ID SCAN

The next step is the ID verification scan. Please align your approved ID card within the outline of the screen, ensuring the text

is readable and that the photo is clearly visible within the defined area. Click SCAN.




STEP 9: CONFIRM ID SCAN

Once the scan is captured to customer’s satisfaction, the customer clicks UPLOAD SCAN to submit.




STEP 10: START SHARING/BEGIN PROCTORING

Next, follow the onscreen prompts to (1) ENABLE screen sharing via the MVProctor plugin, and (2) to START sharing your

video feed, beginning the proctored session.




Once sharing is successfully started, a video monitor window will appear in the lower right corner of the screen indicating

that proctoring has begun, and your test will launch in a new tab. 


IMPORTANT: You must keep this tab open in the browser throughout the exam. If you close the tab, the whole browser will be closed.



STEP 11: TEST LANGUAGE SELECTION SCREEN

Once proctoring has started, you will be forwarded to the DMV Automated Knowledge Testing Expansion system in a new

tab. On the first page, you will be asked to select your preferred language.




STEP 12: TEST INSTRUCTIONS

This is the Instructions page, which provides rules and instructions on how to answer questions, skip questions, and submit

responses. Please carefully review these rules before proceeding.




STEP 13: TEST CERTIFICATION & SUBMISSION

After all test questions are answered, you will be prompted to certify your exam. Click YES to declare that you are personally

answering the questions.




STEP 14: TEST SELECTION AND START

You will be prompted to click the name of your exam before proceeding.




STEP 15: TEST QUESTIONS

You may answer all test questions, skip questions, or end the test early. Please answer as many questions as you can until the test is completed. You may adjust your display font size, move the MVP window to the bottom left or bottom right of the screen, or hide the video monitor window if any of your test buttons are obscured.




After submission, this confirmation screen will appear. Click CONTINUE and the AKTE testing tab will be closed.




STEP 16: END PROCTORING

Click END PROCTORING on the video monitoring window to close the proctoring session.




STEP 17: DATA UPLOAD

Final session data and video will be uploaded to our secure servers for processing. Depending on your connection speed, this may take a few minutes. Click OK once the data upload is complete.




STEP 18: CLOSE MVPROCTOR TAB

You may then close the MVProctor tab. Proctoring results are sent to the DMV which, combined with your test answers,

makes a determination and notifies you of your result.
